Behind the Bag: Hello Kitty Breakfast Collection

“This collection was a treat to create! At the time, our team had already achieved great success with the Mickey Waffle collection for Disney Parks. However, we felt that if anyone deserved a breakfast-themed collection, it was Hello Kitty herself! There's a nostalgic charm associated with the kawaii toasters and waffle makers many of us had, and we wanted to tap into that while delivering something innovative, fun, and of exceptional quality.

“Hello Kitty's iconic style is instantly recognizable, but transforming her into waffle-form posed a unique challenge. We wanted to ensure she remained recognizable yet visually appetizing! To achieve this, I incorporated subtle effects that elevated the collection. We used shimmery faux leather, added glitter trims throughout, and adorned the designs with glitter plaques—a personal favorite touch, as I am a self-proclaimed glitter enthusiast! Even the choice of metals for our bags received careful consideration, and it was evident to me that Hello Kitty required rose gold hardware. And of course, I couldn't resist adding the final touch of making the bag waffle scented!

“The toaster crossbody was an amazing collaboration with our talented Product Design team. Together, we brought our dream of creating a purse that truly resembled a toaster to life. One of my favorite features is the coin purse, which is designed to look like a piece of toast that you can pop out of the toaster. It's an element of whimsy that adds an extra layer of genius. However, my favorite addition to the crossbody has to be the dial on the back, allowing you to adjust how toasty you want your Hello Kitty toast to be! It's these meticulous details that truly make a design for me, and I take great pride in being part of a design team like Loungefly. We embrace every opportunity, no matter how small, to create unique and joyful designs for our fans.”
