Gilmore Girls is a beloved show – cozy and fun, don’t we all just want to escape to Stars Hollow?

Now, I totally understand what the hype is all about. I’ve been recommended Gilmore Girls to watch by SO many friends, and so I finally curled up on my couch and hit play.

Best decision ever.

I’m so mad I didn’t start this show sooner!

Gilmore Girls is SO fun! It’s been a pleasure to get to know all the streets of Stars Hollow, walk the halls of Chilton, and now I really, really want to try out some of Luke’s famous coffee.

As a first timer, I put together a list of some of my favorite moments from season one – what are your fav moments? (I know, it’s so hard to choose!)

Also, we have some really cute Gilmore Girls accessories that are out now – a mini backpack and a figural Dragonfly Inn teapot! I talk more about those below – so be sure to check them out! I have a feeling you’ll love them.

And now, without further ado, here are some of my top moments from Gilmore Girls season one:

1. Lorelai Asking Her Parents for Help

What kicks off most of the plotlines we see this first season, I really admired Lorelai going to her parents to ask for the money to send Rory to Chilton.

Right away, it presented us with the tension between Lorelai and her parents, and it said a lot about Lorelai’s character that she was still willing to ask for help in order to support Rory’s dreams. Lorelai is willing to do whatever it takes to give Rory the best life possible.

2. Lorelai Painting Rory's Nails Before Her First Day of School

As someone who always paints their nails before a big event, regardless of if people are going to see them or not, I loved this moment between Rory and Lorelai. I thought it was a sweet bonding moment between them before Rory’s first day of school – even though Lorelai runs off halfway through.

3. Lorelai Finding Out Rory Got a D on Her First Paper at Chilton

In general, I felt really bad for Rory as she started out at Chilton. The academic pressure is a LOT, and seeing Rory immediately internalize it and then start burying herself in books to try and make up for it was heart-wrenching.

And when Lorelai finds out about it from Mr. Medina, she doesn’t hesitate to run back home to comfort Rory. Her peptalk to boost her confidence shows how much she loves her daughter – and she gets an extra gold star for staying up all night with her to study for her Shakespeare test.

4. Lorelai Standing Up for Rory to Take Her Shakespeare Test

Another gold star for Lorelai! The bond between her and Rory is really strong – and sometimes they can seem more like besties than mother-daughter, but her mom mode definitely gets activated when she stands up for Rory to be able to take her Shakespeare test.

She makes her argument clear: stating that Rory has worked so hard to study and she definitely deserves the opportunity to take the test. She even goes so far as to call out the fact that the school can change the rules if they wanted to. I applauded her for calling out the school on non-sensical arguments – and that pays off big time!

5. Rory Deciding She's Not Ready to Give Up on Chilton

Rory has every reason in the world to feel like she’s not a right-fit for Chilton. Yet she’s determined to rise to the challenge. She brushes off all the difficulties she’s faced at school so far and declares “I will catch up.” Seeing her decide to believe in herself was so great to see!

6. Rory Getting Her Birthday Present from Dean

How sweet was this?! I’ve loved seeing the crush form between Dean and Rory, and what I loved more than him being thoughtful enough to get her a present for her birthday is that this moment felt like Rory gaining some independence from Lorelai.

While the two are so close, I think it’s important for anyone to have their own independence – and this felt like a way for Rory to come into her own without her mother.

7. Dean Kissing Rory in the Grocery Store

I still can’t stop laughing over “I got kissed, and I shoplifted.” Dean was SO smooth in that grocery store, and that kiss was literally so sweet. And then Rory immediately running away sent me! The poor girl – kudos to Dean for not interpreting that as a rejection. These two are truly the sweetest.

8. Rory Introducing Her Grandparents to Frozen Pizza

It’s nice to see Rory bond with her grandparents, and this moment was so wholesome. Every Friday, she gets a glimpse into their world, and now they’ve gotten a glimpse of hers – and they find that yes, frozen pizza is absolutely delicious! It’s a cute paradigm shift for her grandparents and strengthens their bond with their granddaughter.
