Screaming over the fact we made an Alien bag – even if no one can hear us!

(Below are our thoughts on the new show, Alien: Earth. If you haven’t watched and want to avoid spoilers – or get to the good stuff about our backpack – scroll all the way down!)

Alien is a franchise that has captured the hearts of many lovers of thriller, action, and aliens. (Come on, do you need anything more than that?!)

Ripley’s journey has been beloved since the beginning. Just take a look around any con, you’ll probably see at least a few Ellen Ripleys walking around. We love to see her resilience, problem-solving, and general awesomeness as she survives one alien encounter after another.

Alien has branched out into various other mini franchises and fandoms, from the well-loved game Alien: Isolation to the recent film, Alien: Romulus, to the just-premiered show, Alien: Earth.

Alien: Earth is the most recent installment in this franchise, taking place two years before the events Ripley experiences in Alien. The show fits right into the new era of Alien that was first driven by Romulus.

While it does keep to its Alien roots, it’s an endless introduction of new technology that has our jaws on the floor, and new alien species that have us hiding behind our hands (we’re looking at you octopus-eyeball-creature).

Seriously, “Species 64” is probably the most horrifying thing we’ve seen in the universe of Alien. Giant xenomorphs with acid for blood? Sure. Eyeball that scurries around on eight legs? No thank you🫣

But beyond that, we’ve also been introduced to fascinating new characters, like all of the Lost Boys, and we’re eager to see how their character arcs develop. Synthetics aren’t new to the world of Alien, but this is the first time we’re seeing human consciousness put into synthetic bodies – and it adds a new and interesting layer to their characters.

And speaking of new things…what is up with Wendy’s connection with the Xenomorphs?! We’ve definitely never seen that before. Is there going to be a hybrid-Xenomorph alliance of some kind? What does that mean for the Xenomorphs, whose only goal is to create more Xenomorphs?

What did Wendy mean when she said “Now we rule” at the end?! 😯

And how is this all going to end to get us on track for the events that occur on the Nostromo? 👀

We’ll find out as the show goes on. (Crossing all our fingers awaiting a season two announcement!)

PLUS – with anything Alien-related, we usually know what to expect: something along the lines of people going after the Xenomorph to bring it back to Earth on orders from the Company, and absolute chaos ensues cause no one’s really a match for the aliens. All of these new species and characters adds an extra layer of “oh god, how is this going to go wrong?”

Alien: Earth really keeps us on our toes when it comes to the suspense and horror we expect from an Alien spinoff. You can tell it’s grounded in its roots, just like Romulus, as it recreates almost everything from the Nostromo in the beginning of the series, and gets creative with its kills – leaving more up to the imagination, which creates better tension than showing us explicitly.

*Runs off to check again if there’s any season two announcement yet*

Now, if you love all things Alien just like we do, and want a truly epic way to show that off, you’re going to love this…
